My take on it

someone who took a picture that is -12EV underexposed and hopes to salvage it has no right to complain, they should be happy they are even getting data, same argument probably applies to the other underexposures.

To my lowly standards, the -6EV is where the banding may become a serious problem, up until that point whoever screwed up the picture should be happy its not all lost.

Basically, just because it can be done doesn't mean it should....
