there are several companies in my part of the world that act as a shipping address in the States for Canadians.

This means I can purchase something in the US, have it shipped (usually free) to "my address" in the States, go across the border and pick it up. Even after you declare the camera and pay tax (cameras are classified as "duty free") it would be cheaper than buying it here in Canada.
