Actually this is not true.

Not the only camera he's (jonrobertp) decided not to buy lately...we often get reminded 

Is it not true that Nikon has sacrificed higher ISO quality for sharpness at the lower ISO with this camera?

I think not because if you down sample to 16 or 18mp the higher ISO quality is still better than the D7K. I think if you print two 6400 ISO scenes at 13x19, noise wise the D7100 will look better. Viewing at 100% skews thinks I think So it's still an improvement in all regards.

I could be totally wrong, your insight is always helpful and i am just trying to learn more here.
