As a D90 shooter,  I am also curious as to the possible iso improvements with the D7100.  I just wouldn't expect miracles.  I have shot with the D5100 and found noise in underexposed areas and where I lifted shadows.  In your images, the noise is certainly noticeable but doesn't it look finer than D90 noise?  Others mention processing because I suspect this type of noise might be easier to clean without losing any or much of the underlying detail.  I am playing around with Topaz Denoise with a free trial right now.  I think if you did a comparison between the same shots with both cameras and then processed with a good nr plug-in, the D7100 files would be far superior.  Fortunately, I do not have a D7100 so my D90 files still seem perfectly adequate.   Get a free trial or two and the difference might be enough to get you hooked on post processing.
