The D7100 is about a good solid stop better than the D90 at higher ISO.  With good noise reduction, it becomes more like three stops, owing to much finer noise with which to work.  A DX camera needs to be kept at 800 or below for best quality.  I would have braced myself as best as possible and shot number one at 1/60th several times with exposure delay at much lower ISO and picked a keeper out of the series. The exposure is good, any lighter would have blown out the sky.  Shooting raw helps a lot with the dynamic range.

If you don't want to post process, that's your business, but you really should to get the best out of the camera :^)
