Q: how does a variable ND grader work?

I've found that generally speaking the longer the focal length the more prone you are to have image degradation from using variable ND filters. The best ones avoid this...and I have found that my Light Craft Workshop faders work very well for the money. The very best ones are the Heliopan and Singh Ray faders...around $400.
