My current motherboard only supports Sata2 and I am unsure about what happens when you upgrade a motherboard to include Sata3.

If I where to upgrade my system to Sata3 and clone my existing Sata2 mechanical boot drive to a new Sata3 mechanical boot drive would I gain any read/write speeds on my boot drive?

I am asking because it is my understanding that current mechanical drive technologies can not even exceed the speeds of Sata2. Is this correct?

I have noticed new motherboards usually include two Sata3 and four Sata2 connections. Is this because people are using Sata3 SSD's as the boot drive and saving data on larger Sata2 mechanical drives?

Help clear up any misunderstands I may have about Sata.

Thanks, Floyd.
