You can do a lot of things with the RX100. Landscapes and HDR because of the relatively high dynamic range, portraits if you use the lens at the wide end and go close to your subject (to get out of focus background) and just about everything else except sports/action.

A Nex has the advantage you can put primes on it (50/1.8) or wide angle lenses (10-18) or longer lenses like the 18-200.

For sports you are better of with an SLT from Sony or a regular dslr. The AF is much better and then especially continuous AF. Also you can buy long F2.8 lenses like the 70-200/2.8 or longer lenses like the Tamron 200-500 and so on. You don't have that option with a Nex.

But why not buy both ?, the RX100 for general use and the Nex for special purposes if you have so.
