Nikon D800 + SB910: confused by how off camera flash works
Mar 21, 2013

I have been doing some tests to understand how my newly-bought Nikon D800 camera and SB910 flash work together, with the SB910 off-camera.  The results confuse me.  The camera pop-up flash is set in Commander mode and the SB910 set as a remote in TTL mode.  The results are all over the place, as if I had set the flash to manual rather than TTL.  If anyone can tell me what I am doing wrong I'd be extremely grateful.

Your advice would be most gratefully received.

(Yes, I know the model is not good-looking, but I had to choose myself!)

Next, f2.8 1/640

Now f2.8 1/3200

f4.5 1/800 next

Next f4.5 1/250

Finally f/100, 1/320

I am clearly either doing something fundamentally wrong or misunderstanding how the camera and off camera flash work together.
