At one time Canon was innovative

They were the first to put USM motor in their SLR lenses, providing silent and fast auto focus.

They were the first to put IS in their SLR lenses.

They were the first to give us a high-resolution (in its day), affordable CMOS based DSLR (D60).

They were the first to give us an affordable FF DSLR (the 5D "Classic").

Then starting 2009 or so things got strange. They seem to be stuck in neutral. They forked out to the mirroless arena with dismal results, they forked to Cinema cameras which may be good for the company but does nothing for us DSLR users, they announce products that after a few years they still can't deliver (the 200-400 f/4 L with built-in TC).

Now they re-use their 4-year old sensor and call it new, they re-badge their camera and call it an "upgrade". It is getting embarrassing now.

I am not an "upgrade-happy" guy; in fact, both of my main DSLRs (5DII and 50D) have been succeeded yet I still hold on to them for they are working just fine. However, I have been waiting for a high-res, fast-AF APS-C camera -- the successor to the 7D -- for some time now, but that is nowhere nearly in sight. My worst fear is that they will even put the same old 18MP sensor in its successor and enthusiastically call it "new and improved".
