I am delinquient in letting you all know if your suggestions worked for me and I am happy to report that the ones that helped the most were:

1. Cover all the feeding stations except for the one I wanted them to come to.

2. Get set up on a tripod and manually prefocus for the expected location of the bird.

3. Keep my eyes off the camera and simply fire away in burst when I see one approaching the feeder.

4. Keep trying!

Well after many hours out in the yard over the last summer/fall, I was able to capture some shots I am happy with.  I used similar techniques to capture them feeding at a plant they visited frequently.  Here are a few:
