Aperture vs DOF
Mar 20, 2013

I am confused about DOF.

Usually it is said that larger aperture (like F/2.0 or F/1.8) provides very shallow depth of field.

But am I correct in saying this shallow/deep DOF is around the subject and not from the camera?

By looking at http://www.dofmaster.com site, I concluded that the distance to subject also plays a crucial role in DOF. Till now I was thinking DOF as zone from camera to end of line where it will be still in focus. I was wrong then?

Can I also conclude that using a larger aperture, one does not have to shoot everything in front of camera and can also shoot someting 10-20 ft away from camera?
