So I love the K5 IIs and after waiting for years for Nikon to upgrade the D300s I'm tired of waiting but I'm amazed to see that the optical quality of the Pentax lenses is so poor, I've gone through's tests of the 18 to 55, 18 to 135 etc

I think you're being a bit selective. The 18-135 is a very compact zoom lens. 18-55 is a cheap kit lens. Naturally there are compromises.

What you do get with the K-5 II + 18-135 is a unique go-anywhere package.

If you prioritise IQ, then Pentax have a splendid range of compact primes and other zooms to choose from.

Remember lens testers focus exclusively on just one particular item in the imaging pipeline. It's in their interests to suck you in to their distorted reality field, so that you'll keep coming back, marvelling at their obsessive nitpicking, and hopefully clicking on their advertising links.
