Canon 6D Viewfinder Out of Focus?
Mar 20, 2013

Hi all--I just bought a new Canon 6D and have noticed that when I autofocus on something the image in the viewfinder is not quite sharp (close but not where it should be) but the resulting image looks great. When I adjust the focus slightly manually I can make the viewfinder image sharper but then the resulting recorded image is definitely less in-focus. Bottom line: my viewfinder and image sensor are not showing me the same thing.

I have adjusted the viewfinder diopter (I wear glasses) to my satisfaction and focus points look sharp. My autofocus is calibrated using Reikan FoCal so I feel comfortable I have dialed in the proper AFMA (this should not cause this anyway). I have been using DLSRs for about 10 years and this is the first time I've ever noticed this phenomena.

Any ideas if this is a defect in the camera or if I am overlooking something?

Thanks in advance to any help!

EDIT - I also have a Canon 7D and it does not have this problem.
