I've worked a bit for the semi-conductor industry and I can tell you that the FF sensors are probably 4X more expensive to manufacture than the APS-C. These sensors are allready expensive because of their large size too.

I'm betting that the APS-C sensors are here to stay.  I also find that image quality is pretty darn good on my 4Ti.
