Normally I use LR only when processing Pentax or Nikon Raws and the ISO has been kept reasonably low (On Pentax it always is since I'm usually using the 55mm f/1.4 or 43mm f/1.9 at f/2 on either or f/2.8 for more DOF). Problems come in when the Raws aren't supported (or well supported) or the ISO is really high for the camera say over 6400. I've found one can get better results with two passes where the sharpening is saved for the second pass and the NR is handled in the first. It depends what one is looking for. It doesn't "bake in" anything since the original raw files still exist after conversion to Tiffs. Take few shots with a K camera at ISO 12800 or over and see if an improvement can't be seen in the noise by NR before sharpening. Since I'm getting clean Foven images up to ISO 1600 and clean Canon FF shots up to 25600 I think it is worth the extra effort for them. I agree I've never needed to go to the trouble of 2 passes for a K5 raw or any Nikon. But I know it is there just in case.
Regards.
