E-P5 speculation and rumor
Mar 17, 2013

So 43rumors has posted consistently that there will be a new Olympus PEN announced next month.  It claims with 80-99% certainty that it will be the E-P5, have no integrated EVF, and will cost close to $1,000 with the kit lens.

I speculate that this lens will be the 17mm f/1.8.  Why?

-The only way Olympus can market an EVF-less PEN close in price to the E-M5 would be to include a "premium" lens and not the 14-42 or even the 12-50 (which would look somewhat unbalanced as well).

-At $1000 it would be a competitive alternative to the Fuji X100S

-Market the PEN series to street shooters.  They sold the "street shooter" bundle with the E-P3 and the 12mm lens, but most street shooters are probably more used to a traditional EFL of 35-50mm.

-By most accounts the 17/1.8 is overpriced, but bundled with a body it raises the apparent value of the package.  Similar to what Sony is doing with the NEX-3N ($500 kit with a lens that separately sells for an overpriced amount of $350).

Anyway, just some thoughts for a lazy Sunday.
