Please explain how a light meter is better than a DSLR histogram. I contend the histogram is superior in almost every respect.

You can measure balance between different light sources, you can measure contrast in a scene quite easily.

Only with a spot meter. A histogram, though, hard to interpret, will show this kind of information better than an overall light meter.

The histogram is also based on the jpg preview and is affected by wb, contrast settings, styles and what else there is to tailor the jpg. None of those things have any impact on the captured raw data though, despite altering the histogram in camera.

Of course. So set up the jpeg parameters to produce the king of histogram you want.

I just realized you guys talk about landscapes. I suppose the histogram and possibly hasselblad or Olympus multispot is the fastest way to do it.

Out of curiosity, anyone still shooting black and white landscapes anymore? There's a market for that in the us?
Or is it like fan, people do it for fun?
