flash head and modeling lamp

Is possible to use a flash head ,bowens  without (physically)  using the modeling lamp, because i bought a reflector with grid for bowens ; the reflector fits well but i couldn't place the grid because the modeling lamp is too long, can i remove it and still use the flash ?thank you
