D800 LCD wouldn't come on??

HI,

I was on a shoot friday and the rear screen wouldn't come on. I could shoot, it would write to the card, focus, everything but use the rear lcd. I changed batteries, reset the camera, (I think, nothing seems to happen externally) turned it off and on a couple times. Finally gave up and got the d5100 as a viewfinder with the idea to shoot it on both. Started to take the shots and the screen comes on..

Operator error or should I send it in only to have Nikon say there is nothing wrong with the camers.
