I fear you've really allowed yourself to step in it.

But, teaching incorrect information is not teaching, even if done because you think it's easier for the student to understand.

And any teacher can tell you that this is completely wrong. In fact, I'd argue that skillful teaching of complex subjects almost ALWAYS involves isolating the essential core of an idea and communicating it, even if that means fudging the details a little.
