Finally Got X20, but I am disappointed with OOC JPEG!!

I was searching for a good compact camera with good OOC Jpeg (because I intended to use it just take a shoot, upload, and share on web). I don't want to take a RAW file in compact camera.

After I intensive search, I found Fuji X10 was standing out. I was about going to buy the X10. But Hey, there is X20..newer model, new filter, it must produce a good IQ too. So I went to camera store and finally got the X20 silver model, which is very beautiful looking.

Overall, I am happy with X20. But the OOC jpeg camera just really not as good as I expected (especially when you look at 100%)

yes, I know that taking a RAW and do a PP produce a better IQ, but that is not what I want from X20. I expect OOC Jpeg IQ at probably 80-90% of RAW, but OOC Jpeg of X20 may be around 50% at best (actually I am not sure yet since I haven't taken RAW and do PP)

so questions arise...

  • was that because wrong setting?I didn't set anything, just left everything at 0 by default (sharpness, NR). Can you guys suggest me how to modify setting so the camera produce a better OOC Jpeg?
  • was that because of ISO? but I didn't set ISO too high. Mostly 100 - 400 (except some night shot at 800)
  • was that because I expect too much from a small sensor compact? (Before this, I used canon G2 (1/1.8 sensor) , then went Pentax K200D (APS-C) with Kit lens for 4 years, both produce a very good OOC JPEG than X20)

Overall I am happy. Didn't plan to return it (well, in my country, I can not return it anyway) Just want to figure out how to make X20 produce a better OOC Jpeg. If you guys know, please help...Thanks
