Oil on aperture blades - so what?
Mar 16, 2013

Hey all - I just picked up an early 70s Canon 50mm f1.4 lens that has oil on the aperture blades. What are the problems that arise from this condition? Can I ignore it?

The oil looks "fresh" ie, is not gummy or dirty.

By the way - thank for all who helped with the mounting issue (Old Canon to NEX). The Fotodiox adapter I'm using has a lock <-> unlock coupling which, combined with the Canon's coupling ring made it confusing. Works fine now, though sometimes the aperture doesn't seem to engage unless I unlock - lock them a couple times.

Joe
