Fujifilm FinePix S20 Pro review

The good:
* DR (SR sensor similar to S3Pro, best DR for non-DSLR)
* RAW format
* external flash
* fast continuous shooting (4.5 fps)
* very good image quality, beautiful colors (so Fuji like)
* takes CF & XD mem cards (although not explicitely
specified in manual)
* low noise (even today 2008 & 4 years after release for
non-DSLR camera comparing to say A610, F10, F100 in par or better IMHO)
* very good micro (2 steps)
* good movie mode
* works great with Fuji camera control studio S/W (HU)

Problems:

* lack of AF assistant light makes difficult to impassible to focus in poor/dimm light (very annoying)
* WB not very good/reliable (with firmware 1.0)
* lense some barrel distortions (and only up to 200mm, no stabilization)
* image sharpness dependent on ISO (@800 not that sharp overall); apparently it is the way Fuji's dealing with noise
* plastic body/plastic lense mount
* underexposes at least -0.5 (correctable) (like most Fujis)
* some cameras experience a sensor issue (my went after
2 years of use or around 2k shots, fortunately
fixed/replaced by Fuji service for free!) as reported on some forums
* was v. expensive when was released and pricewise couldn't compete with DSLRs than didn't gain a lot of popularity :(.
It was good to great camera when was released in 2004 but since market moved on & is driven by Megapixels..., this camera did not find much recognition. Also the initial price was a killer IMHO, way too much priced as some entry level DSLR were selling cheaper at the time. Could be also the camera hit the market a year too late.... It's aged over time and comparing to some new products on the market today the only cool thing of S20Pro remains its DR.

Fujifilm FinePix S20 Pro
6 megapixels • 1.8 screen • 35 – 210 mm (6×)
