Canon PowerShot SX10 IS review
Jan 18, 2009

Bought this camera for a trip to Costa Rica- mostly birding and nature photography, some scenic, some macro. Also shot some videos. Used it instead of my EOS Xti for almost everything except ultra-macro. Much easier to use than my previous SX 3 IS.
Especially like it's ability to spot focus on a small area- useful when shooting subjects (like birds in trees) with distracting surroundings.
Perhaps a little heavy.
Never bothered with the electronic viewfinder.
Scenics were great, even without a polarizer.
I like the removable lens cap. The attached ones get in my way.
Next trip, I may leave all my SLR lenses at home except a Canon 100mm macro lens.

Manual focusing was not easy or convenient, as I shoot unpredictable wildlife and it was too slow. and cumbersome, but auto-focusing worked well most of the time. It would be nice to be able to fine tune the focus by twisting the barrel.
