Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX500 review
Jun 13, 2009

This camera is a diamond in the rough. I think the initial price kept a lot of people away from it. It can now be had for under 200 cabbages, and at that price its a smoking deal.

Its a powerful little beast with a very usable touchscreen that's not overcooked. Nice, bright 3.0" display with 'high-angle' mode for overhead shots.

Its funny how a lot of newer cameras with nearly identical specs are being praised as revolutionary when the FX500 has been around more than a year and offers 720P HD Video to boot. Go figure.

The Pros:
-f2.8 25mm wide angle
-Very functional 3.0" Touchscreen
-Manual Mode allows 60s shutter for nightshots(rare in cameras of this type)
-5X Optical (More if you reduce resolution)
-iAuto Mode plus standard Auto mode
-Simple to operate
-Good Pictures
-Low barrel distortion at full wide
-Battery/Mem Card can be removed while on tri-pod
-ISO Limiter to prevent finger paintings
-Quick Q-menu access
-Very pocketable
-Decent 720P Video with usable sound recording
-Very nice macros

-Flash weak
-Above ISO 400 pretty useless
-No zoom while recording HD video
-Images a little soft at full zoom
-No dedicated scene buttons
