Basic calibration advice with out the use of purchasing a device.

I'm just a enthusiast. Though i try to sell certain things in stock library i can't tell my self as a professional.

My camera is 550D known T2i in US.
I want to do a basic calibration but i don't want to buy a gadget for that unless i start making a profit to purchase things. Is there any way i can do the basic calibration with out using a dedicated hardware. I also want to know about color profile and stuffs.
Color accuracy was never a problem for me as no one complained about color cast. But i want to make sure i'm doing right and also i suspect i may benefit by calibrating my monitor

My OS is Windows 8 and i use Photoshop Cs6 but mainly my work flow end in camera raw itself.
