WHY??? Do you insist on the shallowest depth of field in every photo?

Okay I just finished looking through the food and drinks thread and I am appalled at how 90% of the shots are apparently taken by people who think it's cool to have most of the subject out of focus. Not the background or the foreground, THE SUBJECT ITSELF. I am going to tell those people right now, YOU ARE WRONG it screams GWC and I don't mean to single out a few people in one thread but so many amateurs on here with badass black cameras seem to think that rendering most of their subject out of focus or makes their images look "professional" or something, because "you can't do that with a digicam." Again, such a view could not be further from the truth. If you are going to shoot still life KEEP THE SUBJECT IN FOCUS except in EXCEPTIONAL circumstances, such as you are trying to isolate just a specific part of the subject. For example in a portrait it's okay to have the ears out of focus SOMETIMES.

But this is the single biggest mistake I see people make on this and other forums when they are shooting these kinds of images (as in,not landscape images). Just fight the temptation to show off how wide the aperture is on your prime lens that you paid a ton of money for and make sure your subject is in focus. YOU CAN isolate the subject from the background, just not from ITSELF.
