P510 GPS

Just purchased a P510, very pleased with it but  a little confused about its GPS set up. I used it today, worked fine locked on to satellites quickly and the log route was accurately displayed when opened in Google Earth. Looking at the displayed route on the camera it seems to be crying out for a basic map not just 500m grid squares. I tried Googling to see if there was a mapping solution and was surprised to find the following spec for the camera quoted on the US Nikon Store

"-Built-in GPS records shooting location and logs routes. Map displays present location during shooting as well as Points of Interest (POI) locations; landmark information can be attached to photos."

Whats that all about! I don't think it reads as though it is referring to ViewNX software. Can anyone shed any light?
