Sorry I wasn't able to log on until today to acknowledge your reply. I've reviewed my last set to see if I can determine what is happening. I tried several different workflows to see which one I like best and hit on the following for my Canon raws.
I'm shooting jpeg+raw but set Picture style = faithful to get the least default sharpening. I set High ISO NR back to 'normal' since I had it set on 'low' before. Now DPP is creating default Tiffs straight from the camera settings that are close to correct histogram. I finish the Tiff images in LR to see if they need any sharpening or have the presence enhanced. Very little sharpening is being required and I'm satisfied with the NR up to about ISO 12800.
This seems to be working best for my Canon files at this point. I haven't been able to duplicate this quality (on high ISO files) by sticking the raws straight into LR as of yet.
Cheers.
