Feedback on first portrait shots

Hi,

I just started practicing portrait shooting with a simple set up, a backdrop panel and a shoot thru umbrella. I will need to shoot professional portrait of work colleagues

I'm still trying to understand what's the ideal portrait technique in this scenario (I seem to like more short light) and what's the best angle and side. eg I included a split light photo to show that for this subject one eye is smaller than the other and that the top of the nose tends to point to one direction. So I thought to put the small eye in front but somehow I prefer the last 3 shots where the small eye is in the back.

How important is it to understand these details on a subject and position him/her accordingly?

Any suggestions/critique appreciated

ps not all photos are in focus
