I want to ditch my Canon 7D, but I can't...

Hi all,

I have shot DSLRs for years, and when the GF1 was introduced I added it as a second and portable camera.

Since then I have slowly switched from Canon to m43rds. Currently I have the E-M5 and a nice set of glass (Samyang FE, 9-18mm, 12-35mm, 25mm, both 45mms), and recently I added the 100-300mm. I love shooting wildlife, it was the reason I held on to the 7D so long for coupled with a good telelens it can really deliver.

But I was willing to forget about BIF, take a little less DoF control and IQ for granted, and go with the 100-300 and the E-M5 - which in many ways is better than the 7D.

But... after a few outings with the E-M5 and 100-300 I learned the E-M5 is quite frustrating for wildlife. Focus points are too big, the lens is not fast enough (has to be stopped down to f7.1 for good IQ), the EVF does not give me the contact with the subject that I want, and the batterylife is abysmal! Even with the grip it is horrible, especially in cold weather. Try to unscrew the grip to replace the battery still in the camera with your cold fingers!

And then I walked into a local camerastore because they had the 75mm f1.8 that I wanted to try out. I walked out with a used but mint Canon 300mm f4 IS for the same price....

The 7D will stay for now. With a long telelens, options to rent even better lenses, and a decent wideanglelens that can comfortably hold multiple filters (ND and NDgrad) without risk.

I really really wanted m43rds to replace all of my canon gear. And one day it might. But not today. Not today.

Anyone else that can relate to this?
