Spyder4, new 27" iMac, wide gamut and ambient sensor
3 months ago

Hi,

I'm calibrating my new 27" iMac with Spyder4 and had selected Standard Gamut as part of the display type.  During the calibration, the software prompted me with a dialog suggesting the display was capable of calibrating to a Wide Gamut.  Now, I thought Wide Gamut was for use with displays capable of stretching to cover, e.g. AdobeRGB, and Standard was for sRGB.  So now I'm confused.

Does anyone know if this is Spyder4 calculating that the screen has capability to cover 100% of sRGB or very close to so I should set it to Wide?  I don't believe the new panels are Wide Gamut in the general sense of that term.

On a different note, does anyone trust the settings suggested by Ambient Sensing phase of calibration?  It's first suggestion was 180 @ 6500; second (once I closed blinds) was 120 @ 5800.  I've experienced best print matches at 100 @ 6500 so that's what I calibrate to.  Interested in people's experience.

Thanks
