Wide Angle Issue: Buy a 17-40L (used) or 5D 'classic' & grip?
Mar 8, 2013

I am new to Canon so excuse the naive question. I shoot with a 1D Mk III. I'd like something a bit wider than the 24-105L I own. I ran into some vignette issues researching some wider angle lenses, Ex:Tokina 12-24, because of the APS-H sensor on the MK III. I kind of resolved myself to the 17-40L even idf it only gets me and extra 7mm on the low end. Now if my math was right using the 24-105L on the FF 5D classic should drop the 24mm down to 16.8mm Which is basically the same as the 17-40L, at a similar cost, but gives the benefit of a spare body also.

Anyone follow my train of thought? Have any comments or suggestions for me? Thanks in advance for any input offered.
