There hasn't been any news to validate this rumour.  Also, suggesting an extra tax on a cash asset doesn't make sense.

I would think all camera manufacturers must be feeling their shrinking market share caused by the expanding camera-phone/tablet business.  P&S camera sales would be first impacted. However, this could also mean fewer P&S customers would be upgrading to DSLRs in the future.

Maybe today there are too many camera manufacturers chasing a shrinking market.  There probably will be some non-Pentax surprises if a market shake-out occurs, but that doesn't mean existing equipment will cease to function.   The problem is, rumours may wrongly influence consumers' purchasing new equipment, because, why put more investment into a dying brand?

I would think Pentax could best bolster customer's confidence by releasing announced product early or as scheduled; and make sure necessary accessories are available, if no longer provided by third party manufacturers.   You can't buy from an empty store.
