Bigger sensors collect more light/photons.

The photons have to get through the glass and beyer matrix to the sensor. The bigger each sensor 'pixel' site, the more photons are collected.

Science is improving the collecting prowess of sensor pixels, but it will always be about collecting photons most efficiently.

for the same electronics, a larger sensor cell will collect more light over a smaller cell, and therefore the software will be able to deduce the correct color and luminosity more easily.
