Need some lens buying advice between a couple lenses

Hey guys.

I recently bought the Sony a77, a forced upgrade after my a700 was stolen. First, does anyone have experience with both and insight as to the quality of the 77 compared to the 700?

More importantly, I formerly used the old DT 18-70 kit lens with my a700 and a separate Minolta 70-200 (no idea what it actually was). I bought the DT 18-250 to combine and replace those two lenses but am wondering if, with the 24mp capacity of the a77, do you think I should bite the bullet and upgrade my glass and get two better quality lenses, a medium zoom up to 60 or 70 and then a 70+? I'm not looking to spend more than $1,100 on either lens.

Will the picture quality be noticeably hindered by the DT 18-250?

I usually shoot portraits, street candids, and am getting into weddings (at least three scheduled for this summer).

Thanks for taking the time to read and answer!
