Good (expensive) lens vs bad (cheap) lens

Not answering your question directly, but note also that the focal length range of the 24-105mm lens is designed for a full frame camera (5D,6D,1D series).

Mostly people with APS-C cameras (like yours) find the best upgraded walkabout zoom lens to be the 15-85mm (for best focal length range) or 17-55mm F/2.8 for lower light. The 24mm wide end of the 24-105mm may not be wide enough for you.

However many crop sensor shooters may be very happy with this range, depending on their style.
