I understand what you're trying to do, but having a soft box 15 feet away is not proper use of a soft box. A soft box is only a soft box when it is very close to the subject. Just because it works in your judgment, is not to say it is the right thing. There are two rules that are never broken, the closer the light and the larger the light, the softer it is. Once you put the softbox at good distance, it is no longer a softbox, you should use a different tactic. It sounds to me you want a look to your models that a softbox gives you at a distance,  there are better methods. Try an octa, It will give you a good look and take up much less room. I see in your post that you said it was 15 inches away, but I think you meant feet, as a group of people 15 inches away is not reality.
