I have recent experience of both lenses - having compared same subject bird shots with me using my A77/Tamron 200-500 and my brother-in-law using his Nikon D3200/Sigma 150-500 combo.

Based on this shoot of approx 350 shots each the image quality from the short to long end is broadly similar - with the Tamron being slightly better given equal shooting conditions. Of course the difference might be down to the camera specs. Although both have 24M sensors.

The problem with the Tamron 200-500 is focus hunting and mechanical noise in poor light or when the subject is partly obscured by vegetation - this is where manual focus overide on the Sigma is a big advantage.

Given the choice now I would go for the Sigma 150-500.

I hope this helps.
