A good reason for keeping a filter on your lens

I get both the sides of the filter argument. I guess it's a personal preference. My tendency it to not shoot with a filter. Unless I am using one for an effect, ND, CPL, etc... Oddly enough I have UV/ Protective filters on all my lenses for transport and storage. I did have a cheap UV filter save the front element of an old Tokina 100-300 F4. So for that circumstance having it on during transport was worth the $30.00 of the filter.
