Kerry, you did a good job describing the times when I keep my finger on the trigger, and it is not that often but can make a difference. And I don't want to be like other posters that think because they don't need a certain feature it is not an important feature to have for any new camera. I am hoping but not expecting the D7100 will be able to do everything the D300S does and more. I am not sure how the buffer problem would impact how I shoot if I shoot jpgs and this is why I appreciate your responses as well as the responses of others. Up to very recently I have been shooting raw with the D300S and have felt like I was not getting anything close to 7 frames a second, and it does seem like shooting jpg improves the frame rate. I use a Sandisk extreme III card if that makes any difference.
I switched from Canon to Nikon and gave up the 7D for the D300S. Both cameras do a nice job for sports and I am debating about selling the D300S if I were to buy the D7100. I shoot a lot of sports but want to do more landscape type work and when traveling like having two cameras, my D800 for wide and normal shots and right now the D300S for tele shots. i am just real curious how the D7100 will perform for sports and hope I can replace my D300S with it. If sports shooters have a lot of issues with it then I probably will wait longer to see if there will be a D400 or something similar.
