When you read a book you engage reading and comprehension and a little imagination.

Actively surfing the 'net implies curiosity, interest, searching, opening new streams of thought, etc.

The comparison they should have made was brain-book and brain-reading a long web page.
Then they'd probably be about the same.

I think you may be right there. Watching tv or a movie belongs in the same class.
