I Have a K30X on a N2204. Great set up, very solid with a 60D + 70-200/2.8 + TC2x III.
I think maybe the problem you might have with setting the friction is that the K30X is set slightly differently than from a normal ballhead with a separate friction knob.
The numbers there are simply to reference your set points, they can be anything, so long as you remember the point where your desired friction is.
First you loosen the friction wheel really loose.
Then you set the main knob to where you have the ball friction just tight as you want. It shouldn't flop, but also not too tight that you can't move the camera. Make sure you do this with the camera mounted. Use the numbers to help judge this.
Then you tighten the friction wheel a bit more that thumb-tight. That should be it. The main knob will now only move between locked tight and your friction point. You shouldn't have to touch the friction wheel anymore.
(In a separate friction knob setup, you set the tension with the friction knob, and the main knob can travel from locked to completely loose).
