Seems like a move to ensure that Sony gets its hands on as much sensor tech and IP as possible.
In one move they essentially neutralise a competitor.
Add to this the JV thing they have with Toshiba and clearly Sony is taking sensor development very seriously.
Would not be surprised if the owners of Aptiva sell up to Sony in time.
