Cool! Thanks for getting back to this thread. I have no doubt that Wimberly for long/heavy lenses and Acratech for everything else will provide years of excellent service.

I ended up going with Lensmaster. It's a side gimbal and the cost was $198. In my opinion it's an extremely good option for those with a slim budget. The head seems very robust--I'm sure it will do the distance. The operation is smooth and easy to dial in. It's easy to disassemble, clean, and maintenance should the need ever arise.

Best of luck. I envy your ball head and hope to save up for an Acratech someday too.
