I am on the fence as well (at least for the next 24 hours or so) - the $300 discount is excellent - but I really don't "need" the 70-200 VRII as I have the older 80-200 (two ring model) - so I can't seem to decide. I know once the price jumps back to $2300 I will 'regret' not jumping on it - but then I start thinking that Nikon will at some point soon probably release a revised 70-200 2.8 with VRIII - hopefully with less focus shifting - then I would feel 'vindicated' if you will ... Anyways that's where I am at currently....

You know they will release the VRIII in 2-3 years based on the product cycle. hopefully it'll take longer than expected and I'm hoping if I do upgrade to the VRIII I'll be able to sell my VRII at a decent price considering the $300 discount. The upgrade won't probably happen but who knows.
Not sure how the resale value is for Tamron lenses but I'm sure its not as good as Nikons unless this VC turns out to be one of those gems.
