Re: Complain to DxO then

If you compare the exposure differences in shutter speed of the dpreview test scenes compared to the dxo iso measurements there is a very strong correlation.
If you save the d600 image you see f 11 and 1/800 shutter speed.
If you save the omd image you see f 6.3 and 1/1600 shutter speed.
The omd image already is getting 2/3 stop more light to the sensor. If you compare the image brightnesses the nikon is about 1/3 stop brighter. So 2/3 + 1/3 = 1 stop difference in iso.
So you are saying they happen to have brighter lights when they tested the omd and then happend to have dimmer lights when they tested the d600? Even though the d600 was tested after the omd and their supposedly lighting change?
Are you saying they have really crappy lights that fluxuate 2/3 to 1 stop?

But I get tired of reading people claiming that the OM-D/E-PL5 is neck-and-neck with Sony Exmor APS-C sensors in ISO performance.
You need to take this up with DxO then. When I compare the new NEX 5r with the E-M5, the lines on the chart overlap (meaning results are identical) from ISO200 on up. This is true for SNR, DR, Color, and Tonal Range. Why this is, is almost impossible to say, but we have seen Nikon get slightly more out of their Sony sensors than Sony for a while.
I don't know what DxO's testing methods are, but if they are not comparing at the same aperture/shutter speed settings and same relative exposure, then the comparison is pretty useless.
Since DxO compares at the same "measured ISO", they are effectively comparing at the same effective exposure (same amount of light on the sensor).
Looking at DPreview's RAW comparison tool, the E-M5 is stopped down to f/6.3 and the NEX-6 is stopped down to f/8 with no mention as to shutter speed. Presumably the E-M5 was opened up 2/3 of a stop to maintain the same exposure, but this does not accurately measure sensor performance.
The f-values and shutter speeds used by DPR for their studio scene samples tells you nothing about effective exposure (amount of light on the sensor) since, as DPR representatives have pointed out on several occasions, the light level in the studio used for these samples is not controlled or held constant. DPR employs other procedures to ensure that different cameras get the same effective exposure as long as their ISO is accurate (as measured by DPR, not DxO, see the results on ISO accuracy reported in the "Noise and noise reduction section" of each review).
