I've never seen any test showing a difference between writing raw or jpeg files to a card and how many shots before battery depletion. Based on my experience, the energy to do either pales in comparison to the energy needed to power the rear LCD. When I'm constantly reviewing photos or shooting a lot of video, the battery in my DSLR drops fairly quickly. On the other hand, I can take a few thousand shots on half a charge if I keep photo review to a minimum.

If using a P&S, you can greatly increase your battery life by turning off the rear LCD and using an optical viewfinder, assuming you have the choice.
