I disagree about having a public forum. I'd rather there be a forum where users can ask about specific moderator actions to ALL the moderators, but such that no other users can see (so only the user and any moderators can view/post on the thread that the user created).

I'm one moderator who would like to have a public forum for issues. It would be useful to both moderators and users.

Take the OP, for example. He sincerely did not understand who did it and why a thread was locked. I believe that there are many other users just like him. He could have posted in such forum and the issue could have been explained in half a dozen posts without too many challenges. I tried to explain it in general terms just before the thread was locked. The subject didn't have to dwell on that particular locked thread. I could have given him examples of why I would lock a thread and other moderators could have done the same. Truth is he really asked a generic question though he used a specific thread as an example. And I tried to give him a generic answer since I'm not privy to the exact reasons such a thread was locked.

I didn't know you were a moderator since you don't have the tag sitting in front of your screen name. You gave me an "opinion" but I wasn't sure whether this was general pondering or actually what happens, tried to specify what I meant, my post was deleted, I received a PM with a response that I should be satisfied with the answer - and the thread was then locked.

As you can see here (actually followed some other discussions along the same lines) there is a need for discussion! Not a "need" as in life threatening importance, more like need for a cappuccino in the morning where you could easily survice on English Breakfast Tea ...

Your hint to post in the same forum, well I mentioned this before but a mod pointed out that people who wanted to discuss this shoudl go to the open talk forum ... now you are saying I should have asked there?? Again, I follwed a thread where somebody wanted to discuss certain manners and moderation on a forum - and the forum was then locked ... difficult so it seems to get it right ...

Cheers
